Local leaders traveling to study Denver's success

KENDALLVILLE - A group of 36 community leaders from northeast Indiana will travel to Denver on a study trip Thursday through Saturday.
Leadership Fort Wayne and the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership are sponsoring the trip to learn about Metro Denver Economic Development Corp. It is nationally and internationally recognized for its successful approach to regional economic development.
Local participants in the trip include: Angola Mayor Richard Hickman; Richard Sherck, executive director of the Noble County Economic Development Corp.; Denise Lemmon, executive director for LEAP of Noble County; Matt Bell, executive director for the Regional Chamber of Northeast Indiana; and Melissa Carpenter, executive director of the Freedom Academy.
Leadership Fort Wayne and the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership, through its Vision 2020 program, are working together to develop sustained regional leadership throughout northeast Indiana.
Topics for the Denver trip include: learning how regional mayors work together through the Denver Metro Mayors Caucus; the importance of a regional comprehensive transportation plan; how in just 15 years Denver International Airport has grown to become the third largest and 11th busiest passenger airport in the world; and how the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce stays relevant and supports the regional imperative.
The Regional Leadership Experience provides opportunities to learn from other successful communities for the benefit of northeast Indiana.
