The 11th annual Made in Steuben event is set to be the largest gathering yet of students, employers, and educators focused on manufacturing opportunities in Steuben County. Hosted by the Steuben County Economic Development Corporation (SCEDC), the event is scheduled for October 21, 2025, at Trine University’s MTI Center.

This year’s event expands its reach to include not only high school students but also college students, building a stronger pipeline between education and industry.

“This year will be the most involved and impactful Made in Steuben event we have ever hosted,” said Jessica Christen, in charge of Projects and Operations at SCEDC. “Our goal is to strengthen connections between students and employers while showcasing the advanced opportunities available in modern manufacturing.”

High School Students Explore Career Pathways

Morning sessions will bring in high school students from area high schools. Students will tour exhibits, meet directly with employers, and participate in interactive simulations that highlight the complexity and innovation of today’s manufacturing sector.

Every year, Made in Steuben challenges outdated perceptions of manufacturing as repetitive or unsafe, instead highlighting careers that demand problem-solving, technical skill, and creativity.

For many students, the event is the first introduction to companies located in their own community. By giving them direct access to employers, Made in Steuben provides a tangible view of how skills learned in school can be applied to careers after graduation.

College Students Gain Industry Exposure

In the afternoon, Trine University students will join the event for the first time. This addition builds on the success of prior years and acknowledges the county’s need for highly trained talent ready to enter the workforce.

“By engaging Trine University, we are extending opportunities for students to connect coursework with real-world applications,” Christen said. “This partnership helps ensure that students see the full range of career options available in Steuben County.”

College students will spend their session networking with employers, discussing internship opportunities, and learning how to apply their skills in advanced manufacturing roles. Employers gain the benefit of connecting with students who are closer to entering the workforce, supporting immediate and long-term hiring needs.

Building Talent for the Future

Made in Steuben is not just an event but a key component of the county’s workforce development strategy. Manufacturers face a growing challenge in finding qualified workers, and events like this directly address that need. By connecting students to employers early, SCEDC helps build awareness of local opportunities while retaining talent in the region.
