Manufacturing Experience Camp

About the Event

Middle school students from Fremont, Hamilton, Angola, and Prairie Heights have the opportunity to gain insight into the high-tech manufacturing industry through Steuben County's Manufacturing Experience Camp! On the last Saturday of October, the SCEDC hosts the Manufacturing Experience Camp at the Angola Training Center. The event begins at 9:00 A.M. and ends at 2:00 P.M. The Manufacturing Experience Camp is designed to give middle school students in Steuben County the opportunity to explore skills related to the high-tech manufacturing industry. The SCEDC collaborated with Freedom Academy to teach middle school students the fundamentals of CNC machining. The manufacturing experience is the perfect opportunity to explore the manufacturing industry in an exciting and constructive manner.

History of the Event

The manufacturing experience originated as a promotion held by Manufacturing Begins with Me (MBWM). Because Indiana is largely dominated by manufacturing organizations, MBWM has continued to explore careers in Indiana.  In 2024, Indiana was announced as a Hall of Fame Inductee and Award Winner. With the continuous growth and evolution of high-tech manufacturing organizations in Indiana, the SCEDC decided to host an annual event to expose middle school students to the high-tech manufacturing industry. The first event was held in collaboration with Freedom Academy to teach students the basics of CNC machining. The event has received positive reception, and we are excited to continue expanding the event.

Registration

Registration for the Manufacturing Experience Camp opens in early October and ends October 14th. Registration is limited to the first thirty-six students, so don't miss out on this opportunity! Learn more about Manufacturing Begins With Me: https://manufacturing.beginswith.me/
